Why Settle for "Top 1%?"

February 2011 edition of Smart Money:

No, friends...unfortunately, Braxton-Keegan did NOT make the cover of Smart Money this time around (although that would've been nicely well deserved, in our humble opinion). Inside, the article posits the following:

" Most mutual funds lagged behind the stock market over the past year, and that made us wonder: where do you find the money managers who can beat the market year in and year out? "

While each of the twelve fund managers profiled in the article can indeed claim better-than-average returns over time compared to their benchmarks, we all shared a collective smile here at the office after reading the article ...

After all, when one can deliver consistent and significant outperformance relative to "America's Top 1%" of money managers, we suppose we'd agree with any casual observer who might suggest that Braxton-Keegan has been doing something right for a very long time.

As for not making the cover of Smart Money?  Oh, well, there's always next year...

Our Trading Methodology

•  Discretionary investment style.

•  Target monthly return of 3%-5%.

•  Focus: typically liquid U.S. equities,
    EURUSD, GBPUSD currency pairs.

•  Systematic technical analysis
   employing a multi-directional trading
   methodology.

•  Carefully designed, disciplined risk
    management protocols, ensuring a
maximum fixed loss on any one
    investment.

An important point to mention is that we are not investors in the typical sense of the word.  We view the markets as essentially a huge trading pit; while we will occasionally take longer term positions--perhaps stretching a few weeks or months--when suggested by well-defined trends and macro-economic developments, our modus operandi  is essentially that of a short-term, speculative approach to any given position we open.

A typical position will generally last between one and three months, and occasionally as circumstances suggest, as little as only a few days.  A case-in-point would be during the release of a major economic report such as Non-Farm Payrolls, where a wild currency swing can yield a substantial return if we're on the right side of the trade. Or, perhaps, we might fade a gap in early trade (when most amateurs take positions), and be happy with a quick 2% move on an intra-day play.

Either way, we strive to deliver better results than "America's Top 1%;"  Judge for yourself; the comparison is easy.
